ANISSA MEDDEB
Originally from Tunisia, Anissa Meddeb grew up in Tunis and Paris and moved to New York to study fashion design at Parsons, the New School where she obtained her bachelor of fine arts with a focus in womenswear. During her studies, she did an exchange at Central Saint Martins in London. She later completed a "Design Entrepreneur" program at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY.
She gained professional experiences with prestigious designers such as A.P.C. in Paris, Marc Jacobs, ThreeAsfour, and Outdoor Voices in New York.
In 2016, Anissa launched her label Anissa Aida..., Aïda being a tribute to her older sister who passed away in 2010. The brand is inspired by Tunisian and Japanese culture, both rich in heritage and traditional craftsmanship. Produced in Tunisia, Meddeb's looks invoke classic Arab silhouettes with an architectural edge.
The intersection of North African culture and Eastern aesthetics offers sleek sophisticated designs, drawing on cultural and sartorial influences. It puts a modern spin on ancestral garments such as the kimono and caftan.
Dubbed “one to watch” in 2017 by Fashion Scout London, the designer’s collections have been shown during runways at fashion weeks in Tunis, Paris, London, Berlin and Harbin China, Porto, Durban South Africa, and Barbados.
The designer won the Open My Med Prize of Maison Mode Méditerranée in Marseille, France in 2018 and was selected to represent Tunisia at the «Bonne Arrivée» exhibition at Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in September 2021.
ANISSA AIDA values sustainable sourcing and is conscious of the impact the Fashion industry has on the environment. The brand, therefore, collaborates with artisans.
The label is supported by CANEX (Creative African Nexus), a program carried out by Afreximbank to promote African designers.
Anissa Aida is currently stocked in Tunis, San Francisco, and Tokyo.
