In 2013, a cold, young Canadian girl decided to sell everything and search for a new place to call home. Drawn to the laid back surf life she’d only seen on TV, she found herself in a small beach town in Mexico, with only a tiny backpack. After learning to surf, and experiencing the beautiful culture, she fell in love and decided she would never leave. She traded all her bras for bikini tops, and decided barefoot was better. Inspired daily by the smiling surfers and sunbathers, she created Mokie Swimwear in 2019.
Mokie Swimwear cares immensely about the Earth and her oceans that allow us to live, play, and thrive. For that reason we are proudly a small, and sustainable brand. We hand make each garment in a small studio in Sayulita, Mexico. Each garment is made from deadstock materials, and we use as much of the fabrics as possible to allow for less waste. Very small amounts of fabric are purchased which means all of our swimwear is limited edition. We take special care throughout the entire process to minimize our footprint. We believe that sustainability goes beyond the fabric, and beyond the packaging materials. The answer is making less, and this is why we strongly believe in small businesses everywhere.
