What was your previous work experience before launching your brand?

I attended French Leather Handbag School and have working experience with Longchamp and Louis Vuitton.

When did you know you wanted to become a designer?

When I could not find a small tangerine clutch bag for my sister’s wedding. I spent several days looking for one in the stores and online. Once I found one, it was a poor-quality handbag from a famous brand and I was devastated. I decided to make it myself. The feedback I received from others on my designs was the start of my next dream to become a professional leather artist.

What is your favorite part about designing?

The result. It’s always a mystery until the last touch.

"I wanted to design them myself, exactly the way I wanted them to be, from the details to the colors."

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from fashion week trends, trips, and a lot of ideas come from my stylish customers.

What made you decide to design leather goods?

Once I finished my French school of leather production handbags for the luxury market, I could not buy already-made handbags from famous designers. I wanted to design them myself, exactly the way I wanted them to be, from the details to the colors.

What sets your brand apart from the rest?

I create and produce everything myself from A to Z.

What do you envision for the future of your brand?

To grow and to become more visible to leather-enthusiasts similar to my existing customers.

What should consumers expect to see next from Atelier Gauthier?

I am excited to introduce a new bridal collection!

Do you have a favorite piece that you have designed?

My peplum belts, reversible belts, and the micro bag Lilly are a few of my favorites.

What is your favorite current fashion trend? What is your least favorite?

Cute mini bags are my favorite. My least favorite would be big shopping bags.

“Fashion is the present we are living in; always on the move and unpredictable.”

What is the one piece of advice you would give to a new designer?

Keep your eyes wide open.

What were some hurdles you had to overcome in your business?

I was certainly challenged during COVID, when I was forced to find more local customers (in the countryside). That was not easy; however, after 2 years, I have plenty of great customers. The experience has taught me to adapt and I now have a wide range of products.

How important is social media to your brand?

I’m an addict, as it has worked for me and my business platform from the beginning.

How would you define fashion?

Fashion is the present we are living in; always on the move and unpredictable.

How has the fashion industry changed since you first started out?

Trends are changing much faster with colors, shapes and concepts. Also, it is interesting to see how possible it is for anyone to become famous, especially through social media.

If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career, what would it be?

Start big!
