Designer Interview
What is your earliest design memory for your brand?
I remember meeting my partner Orlane at school. We had a chat over coffee, and it was the first time I saw my project come to life. I knew that from that moment on we were really going to launch Claire Geronimi Paris and create a bodysuit that would suit every moment of a woman's day.
Where do you find inspiration?
I have been inspired since I was a little girl. I did a lot of dancing and synchronized swimming which allowed me to know the body in all its forms and colors. Also, my grandmother and I made clothes together until I was 14 years old, which taught me a lot about fabrics and materials.
What sets your brand apart from the rest?
Our brand specializes in a single product which is the bodysuit. We create pieces that are meant to be feminine and comfortable. We want the bodysuit to be wearable all day long by businesswomen.
“The brand should embody the personality of the designer to stand out from the competition!”
Do you have a favorite piece that you have designed?
The Pisa bodysuit embodies absolute femininity for me with its white satin fabric that we sourced in Italy from a small supplier. With pretty bows that fall on the hips, it delicately loosens the ribs. This is the bodysuit that represents me the most: soft, simple material but bold cuts.
What were some hurdles you had to overcome in your business?
We had a lot of problems with production because we launched during the Covid-19 pandemic. We were ready to launch quickly but, in the end, the factories and suppliers were slow, so it took over a year and a half to launch Claire Geronimi Paris.
Do you have a passion other than fashion or design?
Always dancing and synchronized swimming. I also like art a lot, which allows me to disconnect when I have long days and in Paris, we have plenty of that!
What do you envision for the future of your brand?
We would like to establish ourselves in New York by opening a pop-up store! We also want to work with brands that embody our values.
“The three values of Claire Geronimi Paris are femininity, positivity, and comfort.”
What is the one piece of advice you would give to a new designer?
The brand should embody the personality of the designer to stand out from the competition!
How important is social media to your brand?
Very important! Instagram allows you to gain visibility and potential customers!
What is the most important thing you would like your brand to be recognized for?
The most important values that my brand carries. The three values of Claire Geronimi Paris are femininity, positivity, and comfort.
How would you define fashion?
For me, fashion is a way of expressing yourself, of showing who you are without the need to communicate through words and gestures. It is the first image that a person sees of you!
What is your favorite fashion trend? Least favorite?
Material innovations impress me. For example, creating polyester from plastic bottles recovered from the sea is just amazing! My least favorite is fast fashion! We still live in a society where we have to consume and produce every week by copying the designs of great designers, it is sad to see less and less originality from these brands that only copy.
How has the fashion industry changed since you first started out?
I started two years ago but I see that the Covid crisis made a lot of people aware of the materials they were wearing, that there was too much production, and that we are still the second most polluting industry in the world.
What can consumers expect to see next from your brand?
We want to create more pieces that will go with our bodysuits so that they can have the total businesswoman look while providing all-day comfort!
If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career, what would it be?
Go ahead and dare!
