Designer Interview
What is your earliest design memory for your brand?
My earliest design memory is sketching out ideas and creating a mood board so that I could visualize my brands key aesthetics, vision, and concepts.
How would you define fashion?
A visual expression of who you are. The classic, popular styles of the current time.
Do you have a favorite piece that you have designed?
My favorite piece that I have designed is the Mary-H-Wrap Dress. Its named after my Gran. It is one of our most loved styles and most versatile for styling.
How would you describe your personal style?
My brand vision pretty much describes my own style. I like to take each day one at a time choosing what I want to express by the way I dress. Some days I dress very casual, jeans and a sweater, on other days, I like to dress up. I like to style with trainers and a jacket. I love sunglasses to accessorize with, and a good bag. My mood will affect my outfit choice. I like to have pieces I can style up or down.
Where do you find inspiration?
I’m inspired by art, 1920’S deco, nature, everything that is around me.
”My favorite part of designing is being able to create new concepts and design ideas. No two days are ever the same.”
What is your favorite part about designing?
My favorite part of designing is being able to create new concepts and design ideas. No two days are ever the same.
What is your favorite fashion film or show?
My favorite film is “The Devil Wears Prada”. “Next in Fashion” is a series I most recently watched.
What is the most important thing you would like your brand to be recognized for?
The most important thing I would like CoCoove to be known for is stylish clothing that is well made with original designs. We want to create wardrobe pieces you bring out year after year and style your own way.
What was your previous work experience before launching your brand?
I trained in fashion in the UK and worked in the design room for a children’s wear company for several years. We designed and manufactured for all the major stores across the UK. After leaving, I raised my family and eventually began to sell one off creations at artisan markets. As I built up a good base of clients for my one-off designs, I decided it was the right time to start my own brand. This was always my long-term goal and a dream to have my own women’s fashion label.
“We aim to create stylish separates and dresses the customer can style how they choose and for any occasion.”
What sets your brand apart from the rest?
We aim to create stylish separates and dresses the customer can style how they choose and for any occasion. I design my own prints which are exclusive to Cocoove garments. A small independent label that no matter how we grow over the next few years will always keep the personal touch.
What do you envision for the future of your brand?
We hope to expand into boutiques across Europe and U.S.A while offering larger collections and more sizing options. Possibly a knitwear range.
What were some hurdles you had to overcome in your business?
Learning to say no. I’m a YES person and not all opportunities are always the right ones for my brand. Learn to be selective and time management. I love what I do so I would work 24/7!
What is the one piece of advice you would give to a new designer?
The above, be prepared to work long hours, be selective as to who you work with. Not every opportunity will be right for your brand.
What is your favorite fashion trend? Least favorite?
My favorite fashion trend: Wide leg trousers or a wrap dress They can be styled so many ways and comfortable. In the 90’s in the UK, the “Shell Suit” was a big trend that has seen some revival. It is a no thank you for me.
What can consumers expect to see next from your brand?
Our new collection was just released. It is titled “Impressionist Collection”, Vision and Inspiration: Monet—Impression—Impressionist---Emotion—Calm---Beauty. A collection made in Cool Cottons with exclusive prints in Pastel tones. We have just launched our very first swimwear print. A one-piece swimsuit printed all over with our new Spring design in pinks and yellows.
