When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a designer?

I loved to draw and paint right from when I was a small girl and as I grew older I used to put outfits together from random pieces of cloth I'd find lying around. Drape them and turn them into something fun and unusual! I then started making clothes for my dolls and thoroughly enjoyed the process of sewing and embroidery. I think I knew for sure when I was 18 that fashion design was something I wanted to pursue as a career.

“To me fashion is fun, it's a form of self-expression and it's a whole lot of color”.

What was the biggest rookie mistake you made when just starting out?

I think I didn't market myself enough, I mostly depended on people reaching out to me, and because at the time so many people were I kind of didn't put too much effort into that. So now I am trying to focus on marketing my products more and reaching out to as many people as I can. Just basically putting K.Kristina out there for the world to see! :)

How do you define fashion?

To me fashion is fun, it's a form of self-expression and it's a whole lot of color. But most importantly I think you need to be comfortable even when you experiment or try something new. I don't think trends are important and I like to believe in timeless fashion, one that never goes out of style.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style would be elegant chic. It mostly depends on my mood and how I am feeling, it can vary from a black tee and jeans to a super quirky colorful dress.

“I want women to feel happy, and I think that is where colors play a very important role”.

What is your favorite part about being a designer?

I love brainstorming and creating mood boards, finding inspiration and translating that into designs. Sketching and designing prints is the most fun part of the process for me. All my collections are based around very strong themes, which have been translated into digital prints for my fabric. Designing these prints for my fabric is one aspect that I look forward to the most.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your designs?

My inspiration comes mostly from my surrounding. It is certain feeling that particular situations bring which I translate into my collections. For example, my very first collection in 2014 - "Hate to Grow Up" was a collection that was centered around the feelings I had at the time and the prints I designed were reminiscent of the things I felt I had to let go off in order to 'grow up'. The same with my other collections, "While I Wait", "Nostalgia" and "Happy Hour", which you can read more about on https://www.kkristina.com/collections/.

How do you want women to feel when wearing your clothes?

I want women to feel happy, and I think that is where the colors play a very important role. I have often seen people light up when they see my clothes, either cause of a quirky print or cause of the color and that just makes me so happy! I want them to feel confident and comfortable, and I think the fabrics I use aid to this. They are all natural fabrics, that are breathable and soft and hence extremely comfortable to wear.
