Designer Interview
When did you know you wanted to become a designer?
I was born to create. The moments that I am 100% connected are always when I’m creating.
What is your earliest design memory for your brand?
I remember organizing a new inspiration board for a project in Brazil.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere except clothes. Ironically, I’m not into fashion itself. I like concepts – to observe people and how they react or act in certain situations and locations. I like feelings – what makes you feel casual, glam, chic, relaxed, etc.
"Fashion should be free from judgements, comfortable for our souls and the expression of our personalities."
How would you define fashion?
I am a fan of the new generation, as they were born with more freedom to create their own vibe. I believe fashion will be redefined soon. I mean, it already is! Nowadays, it’s more about how you would like to express yourself, instead of following the next magazine cover. How are you feeling today? What are you in the mood for? In my opinion, it’s time for fashion “to walk” together with our feelings. Fashion should be free from judgements, comfortable for our souls, and the expression of our personalities.
How would you describe your personal style?
I like to feel good in my body. I consider myself very basic; however, that is not what I hear from others. I like it all, from vintage looks of local brands as well as big labels.
I think the magic is to mix it all when you feel like it or go simple if you don’t. Chic is to be yourself. In all honesty, most of the time my mood is to wear jeans and cotton tops.
What sets your brand apart from the rest?
I created a few cool, timeless sets that you will keep in your wardrobe forever. My customer is looking for the simplicity and sexiness of a denim look to go anywhere.
Do you have a favorite piece that you have designed?
I basically replaced my bra and underwear for Mabasics bodysuits that I now wear every day. I also love the purple leopard matching sets and I’m obsessed with the shoulder pads Moto Vest.
What did you wear to your first job interview?
Jeans and a t-shirt of course!
What is your favorite fashion trend? Least favorite?
Lately, I love oversized jackets and unisex sneakers. My least favorite would be glitter – I’m not into shinny things these days.
How has the fashion industry changed since you first started out?
People used to only wear fitted clothes. Now, the young people want to feel comfortable. They wear the same look from day to night. We are becoming more equal and unisex and I love it!
What can consumers expect to see next from your brand?
I will be creating more of a white palette and more limited editions pieces. I am also developing for my home collection, Giannini Home. I’m more into lifestyle concepts and I might end up combining everything together.
"Don’t be afraid to be too simple, too extravagant, of being enough or of being too much."
What is the one piece of advice you would give to a new designer?
Don’t be afraid! Don’t be afraid to be too simple, too extravagant, of being enough, or of being too much. We are all different from each other and I call this perfection.
What is your favorite fashion film or show?
A film called Elizabeth, starring Cate Blanchett. I still remember the emotions I had when I watched it in 2004. I was only 18 years old.
Where is your favorite place to travel? Why?
There are so many places to choose from! I love a tiny island in Greece, called Paros. I like any place where we can see the authenticity of culture, such as Marrakech, Portugal, Africa, or India. I believe every country has a breathtaking spot for us to discover. Our planet is so special.
Do you have a passion other than fashion or design?
Oh yes! I am passionate about energy! I really believe we are made from light and moved by a magic energy. I am into fashion and design because I have a creative mind, which makes me very visual. To be surrounded by the perfection and imperfection of our planet is extremely inspiring for me. I am also fascinated by authentic people and their feelings.
