Rage rage against the dying of the light.
This version of the matchstick takes its name from the mattachine Society, the first organized gay rights activist group founded in 1951 Commissioned by I Heart and Proctor and Gamble as the artist gift for their Can't Cancel Pride concert event, the matchstick is meant to represent how change begins with a single strike, with the torch of revolution passed between generations; from Elton John to Brandi Carlile, from Melissa Etheridge to Adam Lambert, from Ricky Martin to Kim Petras, there is a light that never goes out. Can't Cancel Pride was born of the pandemic as a way to ensure the celebration and urgency of pride continued during uncertain and isolated times - the pandemic cancelled many things, but not the gays; it was such a success, that it is now its 4th year and has raised over 12 million dollars for lgbtq+ charities.
